Mohamed Salah sets condition for staying at Liverpool

Mohamed Salah is reportedly eager to remain at Liverpool beyond the current season, but it hinges on the club adjusting its contract policy for players over 30, according to former Liverpool forward Michael Owen.

Salah, whose current contract with the club is set to expire on June 30, has yet to reach an agreement with the club over a new deal. Despite this, Owen believes the Egyptian superstar is committed to staying at Anfield, provided the club offers him a contract that extends beyond the typical two-year offers given to players of his age, which is part of Liverpool's standard policy for players over 30.

Owen voiced his thoughts during an interview on talkSPORT, where he explained, “Mo Salah wants to stay. In fact, I’m pretty sure he wants to stay. Liverpool might have a rule of only offering two-year deals to players of his age, but he’s no normal player.”

Owen, who is a Liverpool legend, went on to suggest that, given Salah’s exceptional fitness, professionalism, and dedication, the club should consider bending their usual rules to offer him the contract length he desires. “He’s fit, dedicated, and unbelievably professional. I’d bend the rules and give him the contract length he wants,” Owen said, advocating for the club to extend a more favorable deal to Salah in recognition of his remarkable contributions over the years.

In addition to Salah’s importance to the team, Owen highlighted that replacing him would be costly, both in terms of finances and finding a player who could provide the same level of impact. Owen emphasized that it would make more sense for Liverpool to secure Salah’s future with a new deal, rather than spend considerable funds on a new high-profile signing to replace the prolific forward.

Salah has been an integral part of Liverpool’s success since joining the club in 2017, having scored a remarkable 243 goals during his time at Anfield. His on-field contributions, along with his professionalism, have made him a key figure in Liverpool’s attacking setup, and the club would likely struggle to find a player who could match his consistent performances in front of goal.

However, Salah’s future remains uncertain, with the player’s contract situation still under negotiation. Alongside his contract talks, Liverpool fans are also awaiting the future of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has reportedly been close to agreeing on a move to Real Madrid. As the club navigates the summer transfer window and works to resolve its star players' contract situations, Salah’s commitment to Liverpool will likely remain a key talking point for both fans and analysts alike.
