Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has passionately called on the Premier League giants to make the signing of Nigerian international Victor Osimhen their top priority this summer. According to Saha, Osimhen is not just a capable striker but a “transformational signing” who perfectly fits the profile of what Manchester United’s struggling frontline desperately needs as the club continues to search for a reliable, prolific centre-forward.
The Red Devils’ 2024/25 season has been marked by a painfully inconsistent attack, despite the club’s significant investments in forwards like Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee. Incredibly, midfield playmaker Bruno Fernandes currently leads the club’s scoring charts with 17 goals, while teenage winger Alejandro Garnacho is the only other player to hit double figures. Between them, the highly-rated Højlund and Zirkzee have only managed a combined total of 15 goals, leaving United alarmingly short in front of goal.
Saha, who featured for Manchester United between 2004 and 2008, insists Osimhen is the kind of dynamic, aggressive, and confident striker capable of leading the line at Old Trafford. He believes the Nigerian’s proven record of scoring in different leagues, including his pivotal role in firing Napoli to their first Serie A title in 33 years, and his recent successful loan spell at Galatasaray, makes him a stand-out candidate.
“He’s scored goals at every level — from Ligue 1 to Serie A to the Champions League. He has the physicality, the pace, and the kind of charisma this Manchester United squad is sorely missing. He would bring that big-game mentality and personality that can lift the entire dressing room,” Saha told Mega Dice during an exclusive interview.
The 45-year-old Frenchman didn’t stop there, describing Osimhen as a “transformational signing” who could completely reshape United’s attack. “He’s exactly what this team needs — a fearless, hungry forward who will put defenders on edge every time he’s on the ball. We’ve missed that kind of threat for years now,” Saha added.
While Osimhen’s availability is expected to spark a transfer battle among Europe’s elite clubs, reports emerging from transfer insiders suggest that preliminary discussions regarding personal terms have already taken place between the player’s representatives and Manchester United officials. A transfer fee in the region of £50 million is being rumored, which many see as a bargain given Osimhen’s pedigree, age, and goal-scoring reputation.
With Manchester United desperate to close the gap on domestic rivals and restore their place as one of Europe’s most feared attacking sides, the addition of a proven marksman like Osimhen could prove decisive. Fans and pundits alike are eagerly awaiting the club’s next move as the summer transfer window approaches.
