Ndidi’s Leicester Crushed by Newcastle in Historic Home Loss

Wilfred Ndidi and his Leicester City teammates endured yet another disappointing and disheartening outing as they suffered a crushing 3-0 home defeat to a determined Newcastle United side at the King Power Stadium on Monday night in the English Premier League.

This latest setback marked a devastating low for the Foxes, who now hold an unfortunate place in the record books as the first team in the long and storied history of the English Football League to lose eight consecutive home matches without scoring a single goal in any of them.

The defeat highlighted the deepening crisis at Leicester, with the club now enduring a ten-game winless streak that dates back to their last Premier League triumph—a hard-fought 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur back in January. Since then, the team has struggled for form, cohesion, and results, leading to their perilous position in the league standings.

The Foxes now sit in 19th place on the table with just 17 points to their name—an alarming 15 points adrift from safety as the relegation zone looms larger than ever. Their current form has left fans, pundits, and players alike searching for answers amid growing fears of a demotion to the Championship.

Newcastle United wasted no time asserting their dominance in the match. Just two minutes after kickoff, Tino Livramento sliced through Leicester’s right flank and delivered a low cross that Jacob Murphy was on hand to tap in at the far post, catching the Leicester defense completely off guard.

Murphy struck again in the 11th minute, reacting quickly after Fabian Schär’s thunderous effort cannoned off the crossbar and fell perfectly for the winger to slam home, doubling Newcastle’s lead and deepening the hosts’ misery.

The Magpies sealed the match before the half-time whistle when Harvey Barnes pounced on another rebound—this time from a Joelinton effort—to make it 3-0 in the 34th minute. It was a ruthless display of finishing from Newcastle, whose pace and pressing left Leicester shell-shocked.

Wilfred Ndidi played the full 90 minutes and showed his usual energy and commitment in midfield, registering his 22nd league appearance of the season. But his efforts were in vain, as the Nigerian international could do little to stem the tide of Newcastle’s relentless attack or inspire a response from his struggling teammates.

With the win, Newcastle climbed to fifth in the Premier League standings, accumulating 53 points—tied with fourth-placed Chelsea but behind on goal difference. With just a handful of matches remaining, the Magpies remain firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification.

For Leicester, however, the outlook is increasingly bleak. The club’s failure to find form, combined with their dismal home record and prolonged goal drought, paints a grim picture as they inch closer to relegation. The pressure on the squad and the coaching staff has reached boiling point, and unless they can stage a dramatic turnaround in the final stretch of the season, their time in the top flight may be coming to an end.

With the Championship looming and only a few fixtures left to change their fate, Leicester must regroup quickly. The coming weeks will determine whether they can pull off a miraculous escape or succumb to one of the most shocking relegations in Premier League history.
