Manchester United are reportedly preparing a massive double transfer swoop worth up to £92.5 million as they look to bring in Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. The move is part of a wider summer recruitment strategy that aims to strengthen the club’s attacking options following a disappointing 2024/25 Premier League season.
United, currently struggling in front of goal with just 38 goals scored in 33 league games, see the addition of Cunha and Delap as essential to revitalising their attack. According to The Telegraph, the club is prepared to activate Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause through a structured payment plan. The 24-year-old Brazilian has been one of Wolves’ standout performers this season, netting 14 goals and providing key attacking contributions throughout the campaign.
At the same time, the Red Devils are targeting 21-year-old English forward Liam Delap, whose impressive debut Premier League season with Ipswich has caught the attention of top clubs. Delap has scored 12 goals this term and has a £30 million clause in his contract, which United are reportedly willing to meet as part of the double deal.
With incoming manager Ruben Amorim expected to oversee a major squad overhaul, United are also exploring a range of other options to reshape the team’s frontline. Among these is a potential swap deal involving Napoli’s Nigerian star Victor Osimhen, who remains a long-standing target for the club. Osimhen, previously linked with a move to the Premier League, is seen as a proven goal-scorer who could lead United’s attack in the coming seasons.
As reported by the Daily Mail, the club could look to part ways with several underperforming attackers to free up space and wages for new arrivals. Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Antony are among those believed to be at risk of being sold. Additionally, there are rumors that Rasmus Hojlund might be used in a part-exchange deal to bring Osimhen to Old Trafford. Although Osimhen currently plays for Napoli, there’s speculation that a move to Galatasaray may facilitate the complicated transfer path that sees him land in Manchester.
Meanwhile, Napoli are also believed to be interested in young United star Alejandro Garnacho, who has been one of the brighter spots in United’s campaign. However, the Red Devils reportedly prefer to keep Garnacho or negotiate a straight sale instead of including him in a swap, as doing so would allow them to record the profit as an academy-generated transfer, improving their financial fair play standing.
With significant changes looming at Old Trafford, Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action on Sunday with a clash against Bournemouth. Following that, they’ll travel to Spain to face Athletic Club in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-final — a fixture that could define the remainder of their season.
