Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Ola Aina have been nominated for the 2025 Premier League Team of the Season, following standout campaigns with Fulham and Nottingham Forest respectively.
As the 2024/25 Premier League season nears its conclusion, EA SPORTS FC unveiled a 40-man shortlist for its prestigious Team of the Season award, which celebrates players who have made significant contributions throughout the campaign.
The inclusion of Iwobi and Aina in the shortlist highlights their impressive performances at both the club and international levels, cementing their places among the league’s best.
Ola Aina has been a standout performer for Nottingham Forest, who have been one of this season’s surprise packages in the Premier League. The versatile fullback has been an integral part of Forest's defensive setup, starting 30 consecutive league matches before suffering a calf injury during Forest’s 1-0 win over Manchester United on April 1. Despite the injury, Aina’s defensive reliability, as well as his contributions going forward, which include two goals and one assist, have earned him widespread recognition. His performances have been pivotal in Forest’s impressive season, and his consistency has not gone unnoticed.
On the other hand, Alex Iwobi has enjoyed his best Premier League season to date with Fulham. The Nigerian midfielder has played a crucial role in Fulham's push for European qualification, scoring eight goals and providing five assists in 38 appearances. His contributions have helped propel the club to a respectable position in the Premier League, with Fulham currently sitting ninth in the table with 48 points, just six points behind sixth-placed Chelsea. Iwobi’s form has also seen him achieve a personal milestone, becoming the first Nigerian player in Premier League history to record more than 30 goals and 30 assists, further highlighting his exceptional career year.
Iwobi’s dynamic displays for Fulham have not only contributed to the team’s impressive league position but have solidified his reputation as one of the standout midfielders in the league this season. He now finds himself among the nominees in the midfield category, which includes some of the Premier League’s top stars such as Bruno Fernandes, Declan Rice, Moisés Caicedo, and Bruno Guimarães.
Aina, who is listed among the defensive nominees, is in company with elite defenders such as Virgil van Dijk, William Saliba, and Antonee Robinson, showcasing the high regard in which his performances are held. His defensive prowess and consistency make him a strong contender for the Team of the Season recognition.
