Nottingham Forest head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has provided an update on the status of Taiwo Awoniyi ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Everton. According to Nuno, Awoniyi is currently undergoing assessment by the club’s medical staff after sustaining a hamstring injury during Forest’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United. This injury led to the 27-year-old Nigerian forward being unavailable for the subsequent match against Aston Villa.

“He felt something in his hamstring,” Nuno stated after the Villa game, indicating that Awoniyi’s injury may have been significant enough to keep him out of the lineup.

Awoniyi, who has been an important player for Forest this season, is not the only injury concern for the club. Key players Chris Wood, Ola Aina, and Anthony Elanga are also sidelined due to various injuries. Nuno confirmed that the medical team is still evaluating all of these players to determine their readiness for the match against Everton.

“We’re still assessing all of them. They’re dealing with different issues—some minor, some more serious. We need one more day to evaluate and then decide if they can be involved against Everton,” Nuno explained during his pre-match press conference.

Awoniyi has had a challenging season in terms of injuries, managing only three starts and 350 minutes of Premier League action so far. His lack of consistent match fitness has been a concern for both the player and the team.

Despite these injury setbacks, Nottingham Forest has had a strong campaign this season, sitting in an impressive third position in the Premier League table with 57 points from 31 games. However, with several key players unavailable, Nuno faces a difficult task in keeping the team’s momentum going and securing a potential Champions League spot by the end of the season.
