Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have officially discovered their group opponents for the upcoming 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament, following the completion of the highly anticipated draw ceremony.

The draw, which was held ahead of the championship set to take place later this year in Côte d’Ivoire, placed D’Tigress in Group D, where they are set to go head-to-head with Mozambique and Rwanda in a competitive bid for a coveted place in the knockout rounds.

D’Tigress will enter the tournament as strong favourites and defending champions, having won four consecutive AfroBasket titles in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023. The team is aiming to make history once again by clinching a record fifth straight crown and further extending their dominance on the African continent.

As six-time overall champions, D’Tigress remain the most successful women’s basketball team in Africa, and their consistent top-tier performances have positioned them as the standard-bearers of excellence in the sport. With a deep squad of experienced players and emerging talents, Nigeria is expected to mount a formidable campaign in their quest to retain the title.

However, the road to another championship will not be without its challenges. Mozambique, known for their gritty style of play and recent improvements in international competitions, will pose a serious threat. Rwanda, on the other hand, has been on an upward trajectory, investing in youth development and infrastructure, making them a potential dark horse in the group.
