“We rely on Simon,” – Pallois admits Nantes’ dependence on Super Eagles star

Nantes defender, Nicolas Pallois, has openly acknowledged that the team heavily relies on Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon, whose stellar performances have been pivotal in their battle to stay in Ligue 1 this season.

Simon has been in excellent form throughout the campaign, and his impact was once again evident this past Sunday when he scored in Nantes’ 3-2 loss to Le Havre, a game that highlighted both his individual brilliance and the team’s reliance on him. Despite Simon’s efforts, Nantes continues to struggle and currently sits 13th in the table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.

This season, Simon has been directly involved in nearly half of Nantes' league goals, contributing seven goals and eight assists. His 15 goal contributions (goals and assists combined) make him one of the most productive players in the Ligue 1, with only Rayan Cherki, Bradley Barcola, and Dilane Bakwa contributing more assists (nine each).

Pallois, speaking candidly about Simon's importance to the team, expressed the squad’s heavy dependence on the Nigerian winger. “We give the ball to Simon. We know that he’ll do damage and we cross our fingers that he succeeds,” Pallois said in an interview with GFFN.

Simon is currently tied as Nantes' joint-top scorer alongside Matthis Abline, while the next-best assist provider, Brazilian midfielder Douglas Augusto, has only three assists to his name. Simon's remarkable contributions have been crucial for Antoine Kombouaré’s side, who have spent much of the season battling relegation but are still in contention to secure safety as the campaign nears its end.

Since joining Nantes in 2020, Moses Simon has firmly established himself as one of the club’s most influential players, and his performances were instrumental in their Coupe de France triumph in 2022. Given his current form and the fact that his contract is running down, there is widespread speculation that he may seek a move away from the club this summer, provided the right offer comes in.
