Vinicius Jr. pledges allegiance to Real Madrid as Saudi interest wanes due to contract impasse

Vinicius Junior has made the decision to remain at Real Madrid despite initial interest from the Saudi Pro League, which had previously been exploring a potential transfer. The Brazilian forward, who has been a key player for the Spanish club, has indicated that he is committed to his current role at the Santiago Bernabéu, with ongoing discussions surrounding a new contract.

Contract talks between Vinicius and the club remain in progress, as both parties have not yet reached an agreement on the terms of the extension. According to reports from ESPN, Saudi officials, who first engaged with Vinicius in 2023 with an enticing proposal for a mega-deal worth as much as €1 billion (£840m), have since backed off from their pursuit. The last contact from the Saudi side reportedly occurred in December 2024, and there have been no further discussions or offers since that time.

The cooling of the Saudi interest has been compounded by the departure of the Saudi Pro League’s former vice chairman, Saad Al Lazeez, who had played a key role in the negotiations. This has made the likelihood of a move to Saudi Arabia even less probable.

On the other hand, Real Madrid took the initiative to begin contract negotiations with Vinicius in February, offering him a renewal deal that would match his current net salary of €17 million (£14m/$18.6m) annually. However, Vinicius' representatives have countered with a much higher demand, which has left the negotiations at a standstill. The club has yet to respond to the request formally.

Despite this contract impasse, Vinicius is reportedly still fully invested in the club's long-term project and appears determined to stay at Madrid. He has two years remaining on his current contract, and with his pivotal role in the team, he continues to be central to manager Carlo Ancelotti's plans for the upcoming season.

Real Madrid is gearing up for an important clash in the Champions League quarter-finals against Arsenal on Tuesday, with Vinicius expected to play a crucial role in the team's pursuit of European glory.
