A 15-year-old boy from Uyo has revealed that he sold a boot gifted to him by Nigerian international and Bayer Leverkusen forward, Victor Boniface, to a Rwandan player for the sum of $100.
The young teenager disclosed in an exclusive interview that the transaction took place after the second-leg match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Amavubi of Rwanda in the AFCON Qualifiers, which was held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in November last year.
According to the boy, the Rwandan player approached him after witnessing Victor Boniface hand over the boots to him and expressed interest in purchasing them. After some negotiation, the Rwandan player ultimately offered to buy the boots for $100 (approximately N150,000).
When asked how he spent the money, the teenager explained that he used it to buy a bicycle, school materials, and other personal items. He noted that the money had been helpful in improving his daily life.
The revelation of the sale has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerian football fans, with many debating whether the teenager made the right decision. While some fans criticized him for selling the boots at such a low price, arguing that he could have kept them as memorabilia or sold them for a higher value in the future, others sympathized with him, noting that his financial situation likely influenced his choice.
Some supporters pointed out that he was just a young boy who saw an opportunity to address his immediate needs, emphasizing that survival often takes priority over sentimental value.
The match between Nigeria and Rwanda in the AFCON qualifiers was a dead rubber fixture since the Super Eagles had already secured their qualification for the tournament. Despite that, it was a momentous occasion for the young boy, as he got the opportunity to receive a valuable souvenir from one of Nigeria’s rising football stars.

During the game, Victor Boniface wore a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor Elite boots and played for 89 minutes, marking his 11th international cap for Nigeria.
