Former Super Eagles winger, Pius Ikedia, has emphasized the need for Nigeria's national team to display greater aggression and confidence in their performances. During an interview with Ifeanyi Udeze on Brila FM’s ‘No Holds Barred,’ Ikedia expressed his concerns over the team’s recent play, specifically their eagerness when finishing chances. He observed, “They (Super Eagles) were too eager when finishing their chances against Zimbabwe and need to take their time.”

Ikedia also pointed out issues with the team’s delivery, particularly from the wingers, stressing that their crosses were not up to standard. “The crosses were also poor, and the wingers shouldn’t rush their deliveries,” he said. He believes that improving these key aspects of play could elevate the team’s overall performance and efficiency on the field.

In addition to the offensive concerns, Ikedia highlighted the need for stronger defensive communication and aggression. He noted, “The defenders must be more aggressive and communicate better. The goal conceded could have been avoided if they had spoken to each other during the opponent’s attack.” For Ikedia, effective communication is crucial for preventing goals and ensuring a more solid defensive line.

The former winger, who earned 15 caps and scored one goal for the Super Eagles, expressed his optimism about the team’s future. He stated, “We (Nigeria) have a generation of young players. Many of them are still developing, so the best thing we can do is encourage and support them.” He believes in the potential of the current squad and feels that the right support and encouragement can help these players reach their full potential.

Ikedia, now 44 years old, was part of Nigeria's squad at the 2000 Summer Olympics and the 2002 FIFA World Cup, contributing his experience to the national team during his playing days.
