Nigeria international Tyronne Ebuehi made his long-awaited return to action on Sunday, featuring in Empoli’s goalless Serie A draw against Cagliari after a lengthy 387-day absence due to injury. The 28-year-old fullback’s return came as a significant moment for both the player and his club, marking the end of a long and challenging recovery process.  

Ebuehi's last appearance on the field was on March 15, 2024, when he suffered a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during a league match against Bologna. The injury forced the Nigerian to miss several months of action, including key international fixtures, and kept him on the sidelines for the majority of the 2024-2025 season.  

Following a long period of rehabilitation and recovery, Ebuehi was included in Empoli's matchday squad but had to wait for three consecutive matches before being introduced into the game in the 65th minute, replacing Junior Sambia. His return on the field was an emotional and uplifting moment for both the player and his team.  

Despite the match ending in a goalless draw, Ebuehi’s presence proved vital, as Empoli secured their first clean sheet in Serie A since November 4, 2024. The result was an important point for the struggling club, which remains in the relegation zone, sitting 18th in the table, just two points adrift of safety with seven matches remaining in the current campaign.  

In an emotional interview after the match, Ebuehi spoke about his relief and satisfaction at finally making his return to the pitch after such a challenging year. He acknowledged how difficult the past 387 days had been, but expressed his determination and readiness to help Empoli in their fight for survival in the Serie A.  

With seven crucial matches left in the season, Ebuehi's return could provide a much-needed boost for Empoli as they aim to climb out of the relegation zone and secure their place in Italy’s top flight for another season. The Nigerian international has vowed to do everything in his power to contribute to the team’s efforts during the remainder of the season.
