Barcelona winger Raphinha has opened up about his thoughts on the prestigious Ballon d’Or award, acknowledging that while it occasionally crosses his mind, his main focus remains on achieving success with his club and enjoying his football career.
Speaking in a recent interview, the Brazilian forward admitted that the idea of winning the Ballon d’Or is appealing but insisted that individual awards are not his primary goal.
“It’s normal for it to cross my mind, and if I told you otherwise, I would be lying,” Raphinha said candidly.
However, he quickly downplayed any obsession with the award, stating that his top priorities are scoring goals, providing assists, winning major titles, and making a meaningful contribution to Barcelona’s success.
“What really matters to me is scoring, assisting, helping my team win, and enjoying every moment I spend on the pitch. Football is my passion, and that’s what drives me more than anything else,” he added.
The former Leeds United star also touched on his recent record-breaking performances in the UEFA Champions League, where he has played a key role for Barcelona.
Despite achieving impressive milestones, Raphinha admitted that he was unaware of his statistical feats until they were brought to his attention.
“I didn’t even know I was so close to reaching those numbers. I found out when I was told, and it was a total surprise. I’m very happy to have achieved it,” he revealed.
Reflecting on his time at Barcelona so far, Raphinha expressed immense joy and satisfaction with his journey at the club.
“I’m having a great time at Barcelona. I can’t describe it, it’s incredible,” he concluded, highlighting his deep appreciation for playing at one of the world’s biggest football clubs.
