TSG Hoffenheim manager, Christian Ilzer, has praised Nigerian striker Gift Orban for his rapid adaptation and growing influence since joining the club in January. The 22-year-old has made a significant impact, scoring four goals in seven Bundesliga starts following his €9 million transfer from Olympique Lyon. Ilzer has been particularly impressed with Orban’s increasing understanding of the team’s tactical setup, which has helped him integrate into the squad smoothly.

In a statement shared on Hoffenheim’s official website, the manager highlighted Orban's progress, saying, “He has made good progress in understanding our style of play. The team recognizes that, and that’s why he has become more and more integrated.”

Orban’s playing time has increased steadily as he continues to settle into the squad. In his last six games, he has averaged 63 minutes per match, up from 46 minutes per game in his first six appearances. This shows his growing importance within the team.

The striker arrived in Germany after a tough period in Ligue 1 with Lyon, where he struggled to make an impact. He only managed to score one league goal in 13 appearances, though he found the net twice more in the Coupe de France. Despite his challenges in France, Orban first gained widespread attention in Europe for scoring the fastest hat-trick in UEFA Europa Conference League history, taking just 3 minutes and 25 seconds to complete it.

Orban finished the 2022/2023 season with an impressive tally of 20 goals in 22 matches, further establishing himself as a promising talent. Although he was called up to the Nigerian national team in 2023, Orban has yet to make his debut for the Super Eagles. He was also omitted from the squad for the recent World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe under current head coach Eric Chelle.

With Hoffenheim currently sitting 14th in the Bundesliga with 27 points, just five clear of the relegation play-off spot, Orban could play a crucial role in the club's efforts to remain in the top flight. His form and contributions will be vital as Hoffenheim battles to avoid relegation in the coming weeks.
