Former Nigeria and Udinese midfielder, Christian Obodo, has weighed in on Victor Osimhen’s club future, advising the Nigerian forward to consider moving on from Napoli after his loan spell at Galatasaray SK. Obodo shared his thoughts during an exclusive interview on Brila FM’s breakfast show ‘No Holds Barred’ with Ifeanyi Udeze, where he discussed Osimhen’s situation and his strained relationship with Napoli manager, Antonio Conte.
According to Obodo, the decision ultimately rests with Osimhen, but he believes that once a player has made up his mind to leave a club, he should be allowed to do so without obstacles.
“It all still depends on Osimhen. Any player that has set his mind to leave a club should be allowed to leave,” Obodo stated, emphasizing the importance of allowing players to pursue new opportunities when they feel the need for a change.
Obodo also pointed out that if Osimhen secures a better opportunity in a top-tier league, he should take it without hesitation. He specifically mentioned that the Nigerian striker would thrive in elite competitions such as La Liga or the English Premier League.
“If he gets a better option in a good league like La Liga or Premier League, he should go,” Obodo said, highlighting the importance of Osimhen playing at the highest level possible to further his career.
Having spent 11 years playing in Italy himself, Obodo is well-versed in the dynamics of Serie A. He concluded his remarks by suggesting that if Osimhen were to remain in Italy, he should consider clubs like Inter Milan or Juventus instead of returning to Napoli.
“He helps the team, he works hard, and as a striker, he scores. I would like him to go to Inter Milan or Juventus. If Osimhen is to return (Serie A), he should not just go back to Napoli,” Obodo asserted, indicating that a fresh start at another club in Italy would be more beneficial for the Nigerian forward.
Since making his move to Galatasaray on loan last September, Osimhen has been in sensational form, scoring an impressive 26 goals in 30 appearances for the Turkish giants. His performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs, making his future one of the most talked-about topics in football circles.
With the summer transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on Osimhen as he weighs his options and decides on the next step in his career.
