Jose Mourinho, head coach of Fenerbahce, has come under scrutiny following accusations that he is deliberately sidelining Turkish players in favor of foreign stars. The allegations were raised by Sergen Yalçın, a former Turkish international and one-time Fenerbahce midfielder, who expressed concerns over the coach’s selection policies.

Yalçın, a highly respected figure in Turkish football, made the claims during a recent television appearance, stating that Mourinho “has a problem with Turkish players.” This comes at a tense time for the Portuguese tactician, who is currently serving a three-match touchline ban due to an altercation with Galatasaray manager, Okan Buruk.

According to Yalçın, several top-performing Turkish players have been sidelined without justifiable reason. He highlighted the case of winger Cengiz Ünder, a national team regular who was brought into the squad at a high cost but now appears to be completely out of the picture.

“Fenerbahce paid a fortune for Cengiz. Where is he now? He’s neither with the club nor in the national team. He’s disappeared,” Yalçın questioned during his interview.

He also named other Turkish talents such as Ismail Yüksek, İrfan Can Kahveci, and more, all of whom have reportedly lost their places under Mourinho’s leadership despite previous form and proven ability. Yalçın argued that their exclusion contradicts the broader objective of promoting domestic talent and maintaining squad balance.

The accusations have fueled a growing debate among fans and pundits alike, with some defending Mourinho’s results-driven approach while others question whether his tactics could have long-term implications for Turkish football development.

Despite the criticisms, Mourinho's Fenerbahce remain strong contenders in the Super Lig title race, sitting just three points behind arch-rivals Galatasaray. The outcome of the season and Mourinho’s future could hinge on how he navigates this controversy in the weeks ahead.
