Manchester United Legend Urges Club to Sign Osimhen at All Costs

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has made a strong case for his former club to prioritize the signing of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window. Ferdinand, who is known for his passionate views on the club, shared his thoughts during a recent episode of his podcast, calling on Manchester United to address their offensive struggles with the addition of the Nigerian forward.

The Red Devils have had a tumultuous season, currently sitting in 13th place in the Premier League with 38 points, their worst performance in over three decades. The team’s struggles have been compounded by inconsistent performances, tactical confusion, and a lack of potency in front of goal. As it stands, Manchester United has scored just 37 goals in the league, with their strikers Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee combining for only six goals.

Ferdinand expressed his frustration with the current state of the squad and emphasized that Osimhen’s arrival could be the key to reigniting the club’s attacking threat. “We need Osimhen, we need experience, we need someone who knows how to score, we need someone who can come and show these young strikers at Man United how to do it. If I’m Man United, I’m making it happen,” Ferdinand passionately declared during his podcast.

He further elaborated on his reasoning, calling for a bold move to secure the striker's signature, even proposing a potential swap deal to facilitate the transfer. “I want someone who knows their way around the full pitch at the elite level and knows how to score at the elite level consistently. I want him here and now,” he added.

While Osimhen has not yet played in the Premier League, Ferdinand is undeterred by this and believes that the striker's goal-scoring abilities would translate seamlessly into the English top flight. “Yes, Osimhen hasn’t played in the Premier League, but I don’t care. I think he scores wherever he goes,” Ferdinand said, expressing his confidence in the 25-year-old's potential.

Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, has enjoyed an impressive season, netting 28 goals and providing 5 assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. His stellar performances have earned him recognition as one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe. Last summer, Osimhen was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, but Napoli’s €130 million release clause was deemed too steep for most suitors.

However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has recently suggested that while Osimhen remains on Manchester United's radar, a potential move is uncertain due to concerns over his high salary demands and the overall cost of the deal. Despite these challenges, Ferdinand remains adamant that Osimhen would be a game-changer for the Red Devils and urges the club to make the move happen this summer.
