Super Falcons forward, Gift Monday, is set to make a high-profile transfer from Costa Adeje Tenerife to the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) before the league’s transfer window closes.

According to reports from Radio MARCA, Tenerife has agreed to sell their star forward following intense negotiations that lasted for weeks.

The Washington Spirit initially activated Monday’s €200,000 release clause. However, Tenerife successfully pushed for a higher transfer fee, with both parties eventually settling on a final deal worth around €300,000.

Gift Monday has been a crucial player for Tenerife this season, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 19 league appearances. Her consistent performances established her as one of the team’s standout players, drawing attention from top clubs worldwide.

However, her omission from the squad during Tenerife’s recent 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruña all but confirmed her imminent departure to the United States, where she will embark on a new chapter in her football career.

The 23-year-old Super Falcons attacker made her move to Spanish football three years ago, joining Tenerife from FC Robo Queens, where she had established herself as one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents.

During her time in Liga F, she continued to make waves, winning the prestigious Player of the Month award. This recognition places her in the esteemed company of fellow Nigerian stars Rasheedat Ajibade and Edna Imade, who have also excelled in the Spanish league.

Her move to the Washington Spirit will see her compete in one of the most physically demanding and technically advanced women’s leagues in the world. The transition to the NWSL presents an exciting opportunity for Monday to test herself against some of the best players in women’s football while further enhancing her international career.

As she prepares to bid farewell to Tenerife, fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how she adapts to the pace and intensity of the NWSL, where she is expected to bring her goal-scoring prowess and attacking flair to the Washington Spirit’s frontline.
