Chippa United head coach, Thabo September, has acknowledged that the club may face the possibility of losing first-choice goalkeeper and captain, Stanley Nwabali, this summer. The 28-year-old goalkeeper has been attracting significant attention from clubs abroad following his impressive performances for Nigeria during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Nwabali’s standout displays in the tournament played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final, and it didn’t take long for scouts from top European, Middle Eastern, and other African clubs to take notice.

Despite the growing interest from these clubs, Nwabali made the decision to commit his future to Chippa United earlier this season by signing a new three-year contract. As a result, he was also entrusted with the captain’s armband, acknowledging his leadership qualities and the influence he has both on and off the pitch.

However, despite his commitment, the interest from abroad hasn’t faded, and September admitted that Chippa United might have to accept the reality of losing some of their key players if the right offers come in. The coach emphasized that part of the club’s long-term strategy involves selling high-performing players at the right time, reinvesting in younger talents, and maintaining stability within the team.

In a conversation with Far Post, September explained, “We will lose some, but there’s definitely the core we will keep. It’s football; when you want to make your team better, then you sell your better players and invest in younger players and try to be stable.”

Stanley Nwabali joined Chippa United from the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in 2022, and since then, he has become an integral part of the team. His excellent performances for both club and country have solidified his reputation as one of the best goalkeepers in the league.

As the summer transfer window draws nearer, Chippa United faces a critical decision: whether to cash in on their prized asset in Nwabali or retain him for at least another season. With numerous clubs reportedly interested, Nwabali’s future will undoubtedly be one of the key storylines surrounding the club in the upcoming months.
