Bayern Munich’s Champions League campaign came to a heartbreaking end on Tuesday night after being held to a 2-2 draw by Inter Milan in the second leg of their quarter-final clash. Despite putting up a resilient fight, Bayern were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate, as the Italian giants secured their place in the semi-finals.

The match saw early drama as Bayern Munich's talisman, Harry Kane, gave his side hope in the second half. He finished calmly after a well-timed pass from Leon Goretzka, putting Bayern 1-0 up and drawing level on aggregate. However, the lead was short-lived, and Bayern's defensive fragility once again came into focus. Lautaro Martinez capitalised on a defensive error to level the score just six minutes later, following a quick counterattack. Martinez's goal set the stage for a tense remainder of the match.

The game’s turning point came in the 70th minute when Benjamin Pavard scored a header from a Hakan Calhanoglu corner, putting Inter ahead 2-1 and effectively swinging the momentum in their favour. Despite this setback, Bayern refused to give up and Eric Dier managed to restore parity with a header from a Leroy Sane cross, providing a glimmer of hope in the dying minutes of the match.

With time running out, Bayern Munich pushed forward in search of a winner, and Thomas Muller came close to completing the dramatic turnaround deep into stoppage time. However, his effort was denied by Yann Sommer, who made a crucial save, keeping Inter's hopes alive and securing their place in the semi-finals.

Despite the valiant efforts from Bayern's attack, particularly Harry Kane and Eric Dier, Bayern’s defensive issues were exposed, especially Kim Min-jae’s failure to challenge Pavard on Inter's second goal, which proved to be the deciding factor. These defensive lapses have been a concern for Bayern throughout their campaign, and they proved costly on this occasion.

As a result, Inter Milan will now face Barcelona in the semi-finals, while Bayern Munich must shift their focus to domestic affairs. The Bundesliga giants will be looking to bounce back in the league, with a match against Heidenheim this weekend.
