Arsenal secured a dominant 5-1 aggregate victory over Real Madrid to seal their place in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, with a 2-1 second-leg triumph at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday night.

Mikel Arteta’s men, already holding a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg in London, executed a composed and disciplined performance to dispatch the 15-time European champions, putting them in the semi-finals for the first time since 2009.

The match saw Bukayo Saka earn an early opportunity to open the scoring when he was awarded a penalty in the first half. However, his Panenka attempt was brilliantly saved by Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, denying Arsenal a chance to extend their lead.

Moments later, Real Madrid were awarded a penalty when Declan Rice was adjudged to have fouled Kylian Mbappe inside the area. However, the decision was overturned after a VAR review, sparking frustration among the home side.

In the second half, Saka redeemed himself by scoring the opening goal, capitalizing on a perfectly-weighted through ball from Martin Odegaard. Saka calmly lifted the ball over Courtois, extending Arsenal’s aggregate lead and putting them in the driver’s seat for qualification.

Despite the setback, Real Madrid responded quickly, with William Saliba's defensive error allowing Vinicius Jr. to score and pull one back for Madrid, offering the Spanish giants a glimmer of hope in the tie.

However, Arsenal regained control of the match and expertly saw out the remaining minutes, ensuring their place in the next round. In stoppage time, Gabriel Martinelli sealed the win for Arsenal with a well-taken breakaway goal, further cementing the club's historic night.

The win not only sent Arsenal to their first Champions League semi-final since 2009, but it also set up an intriguing clash with Paris Saint-Germain in the next stage of the competition. The North London side will now focus on preparing for their upcoming semi-final match against PSG, where they will aim to continue their impressive run in Europe.
